RAR Password Recovery enables users to recover lost passwords from RAR and WinRar files, but only from versions 2.x and 3.x. The Program uses Brute-Force and Dictionary ("wordlist") attack methods to find or recover the password. It also has support for Self-extracting archives and multi-volume archives.
It integrates an estimated time calculator allowing to configure the program more carefully. The program automatically saves password search state and can resume after a stop or a crash. There is also an option called patterns that can be used to minimize search time if any part of the password is known.
There is another approach when restoring the password for the archives created by WinRAR. Due to the structure of the RAR-file, encryption in RAR is quite good, so the password can not be found instantly as it takes a lot of resources. The speed of a password search depends on the archive version.
Special hardware is not required, for Windows 9x/ME/XP/NT4/2000/2003, high processor performance is desirable.
